Helicopter Transportation

When minutes matter, Life Link III's helicopter ambulances are ready. Helicopter service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing on-scene emergency response and inter-facility transport. Based throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin, the helicopters are equipped to handle any type of critically ill or injured patient. Life Link III helicopters have flown more than 10,000 accident-free missions since helicopter operations began in 1985. The Life Link III Communications Center can arrange bedside-to-bedside transport for all patients.

About Life Link III's Helicopter Operations:

  • Life Link III's flight crews consist of highly-qualified nurses and paramedics, specially trained in critical care, and experienced EMS pilots
  • Life Link III operates Bell 222 and Bell 407 helicopters
  • Life Link III helicopters are en route within minutes of a request for service
  • The helicopters fly at speeds up to 170 miles per hour
  • Life Link III clinicians typically spend 10 minutes or less on the ground during scene responses and transfer of rapid heart catheterization patients
  • When possible, interventions are performed in the helicopter to minimize the time before the patient reaches definitive care

Ground Ambulance Transportation

For emergent or scheduled transports, Life Link III's ground ambulance service is available day or night, 365 days a year. Life Link III operates state-of-the-art ambulances, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and will arrange bedside-to-bedside transport for all patients. Life Link III can also transport specialty teams or staff and can arrange transportation for a patient and/or medical crew arriving or departing from a Twin Cities airport.

  • Life Link III provides BLS, ALS and Critical Care inter-facility transportation
  • Patient care teams consist of registered nurses, paramedics and EMTs; care teams are configured based on the needs of each patient
  • All clinicians adhere to strict training and education standards, including competency-based training with Life Link III's medical directors

Airplane Transportation

Life Link III's dedicated medical airplanes have been operating accident free since 1983. The airplane ambulance division of Life Link III works in partnership with Club Jet located in Eden Prairie, Minnesota and Heartland Aviation in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. All airplanes have specially-built advanced life support interiors, providing maximum space for the care of all types of patients. The Life Link III Communications Center can arrange all aspects of an airplane transport, including ground ambulance transportation to and from the airport.

Life Link III provides airplane ambulance transportation for all types of patients, including BLS, ALS, Critical Care and neonatal patients. Transports are staffed by registered nurses, paramedics and EMTs. Life Link III also transports specialty care teams and their patients, and organ procurement teams and their patients.
